Overview
CareerTruss collects and stores information required to operate the platform, support students and employers, process applications, manage opportunities, maintain platform security, and enforce the systems that keep CareerTruss reliable.
Our approach to data is straightforward: collect what the platform needs, use it for clearly defined purposes, protect it appropriately, and avoid treating personal information as something that should be collected simply because it is available.
Built on structure, not surveillance

CareerTruss does not currently use AI as the core of the platform
CareerTruss is intentionally built differently from platforms that put an AI model at the centre of every feature.
CareerTruss does not currently use generative AI or AI decision-makers as part of its core internship, application, moderation, or account workflows. There is no AI system quietly making career decisions on behalf of students or employers.
Structure over artificial intelligence
What that means in practice
- Application statuses are controlled by defined platform workflows.
- Listing visibility follows explicit rules and moderation decisions.
- Employer responsiveness can be monitored through structured system logic.
- Access to information is controlled through account roles and permissions.
- Platform events can trigger predefined actions and notifications.
- CareerTruss systems are designed to behave predictably rather than relying on an AI model to determine what should happen.
This is an important part of the CareerTruss philosophy. We believe strong software does not always need to be described as "AI-powered." Sometimes a carefully designed system of rules, data, and connected components is the better engineering solution.
Tip
The Truss principle
CareerTruss is built around the idea of connected structures. Students, employers, applications, listings, notifications, moderation, and platform services form interconnected parts of the same system.
Data is therefore not treated as an isolated collection of user information. It supports the structural systems that allow the platform to function.
- Profiles provide the foundation for student and employer identities.
- Listings connect employers with opportunities.
- Applications connect students with those opportunities.
- Statuses provide structure to recruitment activity.
- Notifications connect important system events to users.
- Enforcement systems help maintain platform responsiveness and trust.
Data should serve the structure
How we protect information
CareerTruss uses technical and structural safeguards to help protect account and platform information. Access is controlled according to account roles and system permissions, while database-level controls help prevent unauthorised access to information.
- Role-based access controls.
- Database-level security policies.
- Authenticated access to protected resources.
- Secure password and authentication mechanisms.
- Controlled access to platform data.
- Monitoring and safeguards against misuse.
Tip
Data retention
CareerTruss retains information for as long as it is reasonably necessary to provide the platform, maintain account functionality, operate recruitment workflows, protect users, enforce platform policies, resolve disputes, or comply with applicable legal requirements.
Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and the reason it was collected.
Warning
Requesting data removal
If you want your account or personal information removed, you can contact CareerTruss. Requests are reviewed and processed in accordance with applicable legal, security, and operational requirements.
Where information can be removed without affecting legitimate operational or legal requirements, CareerTruss will take appropriate action to process the request.
Information shared with other users
Some information is intentionally visible to other users because it is necessary for CareerTruss to function.
| Information | Typical visibility |
|---|---|
| Student profile information | May be shared with employers when relevant to applications or platform functionality. |
| Application information | Available to the employer receiving the application. |
| Employer profile | Information required to identify and understand the organisation. |
| Internship listing | Publicly visible while the opportunity is active and published. |
| Private account information | Restricted to the user and authorised CareerTruss systems. |
Our approach to data
CareerTruss is not built around the idea that a platform should know everything about its users. The goal is to build useful connections between people and opportunities while maintaining a clear boundary around the information required to make those connections work. Just Structure.
As CareerTruss grows, new systems may require new categories of data. When that happens, the purpose of collecting that information should be understandable rather than hidden behind vague technical language.
