Overview
Training programmes and bootcamps can provide valuable practical experience, but they are not automatically the same as conventional internships. CareerTruss therefore requires additional transparency whenever an opportunity primarily involves training, education, or a structured bootcamp programme.
The purpose of these requirements is simple: a student should be able to understand what they are joining, what they will be doing, what they will receive, what they will pay, and what — if anything — happens after the programme.
Training must be represented as training
What counts as a training or bootcamp listing?
This category applies when training or education is a significant part of what the student is being asked to join.
- Paid training programmes.
- Bootcamps.
- Industry training programmes.
- Certification-oriented programmes.
- Placement-oriented training programmes.
- Programmes with a mandatory training phase.
- Programmes where students must pay to participate.
Training programme vs. standard internship
| Standard internship | Training / bootcamp |
|---|---|
| Primary purpose is practical work experience. | Primary purpose is structured training or education. |
| Student generally joins to perform work as an intern. | Student generally joins to learn through a structured programme. |
| Employer provides the opportunity to the student. | Student may be required to pay for the programme. |
| Compensation may be paid or unpaid. | Fees and programme costs must be explicitly disclosed. |
Some opportunities may contain both training and practical work. In those cases, employers should clearly explain how the programme is structured rather than relying on a generic "internship" label.
Physical / offline requirement
CareerTruss training and bootcamp listings are expected to be conducted physically or offline. Employers must provide a genuine physical location where students are expected to attend the programme.
Location information
- Provide the city and physical location.
- Provide the complete address where applicable.
- Clearly state where students are expected to report.
- Explain whether students need to arrange their own travel or accommodation.
Warning
Fees and payments
If a student is required to pay money at any point in the programme, that requirement must be disclosed clearly before the student applies.
- Registration fees.
- Training or tuition fees.
- Deposits.
- Equipment or material charges.
- Certification charges.
- Any other mandatory payment.
No hidden costs
Fee disclosure

|---|---|

| Purpose | What the payment is for. |
| Timing | When the payment must be made. |
| Additional costs | Any other mandatory expenses the student should expect. |
| Refund policy | The circumstances under which money may or may not be refunded. |
Refund policy
Paid programmes should provide a clear refund policy. Students should not have to discover important refund conditions only after making a payment.
Explain the circumstances in which a refund may be available, the applicable time period, and any important conditions or deductions.
Warning
Describe the training itself
A student should be able to understand what they are actually going to learn or do during the programme.
- Training topics or curriculum.
- Expected learning outcomes.
- Programme duration.
- Daily or weekly schedule.
- Projects or practical exercises.
- Assessments or evaluations.
- Tools, technologies, or equipment involved.
- Any certification provided.
Tip
Internship or employment after training
Some training programmes advertise an internship, job, or placement opportunity after successful completion. If this applies to your programme, explain the relationship between the two stages clearly.
Explain the training stage
State what students must complete before they can move to the next stage.Explain the selection process
If students must pass an assessment, interview, evaluation, or other selection process, disclose it.Explain the outcome
Clearly state whether successful students receive an internship, placement assistance, interview opportunity, certification, or something else.Avoid guarantees
Do not describe a conditional opportunity as guaranteed employment or guaranteed placement.
Warning
Certification
If a certificate is provided, explain what the certificate represents and under what conditions it is awarded.
- Whether certification is included.
- Whether students must complete the programme.
- Whether an assessment is required.
- Whether the certificate carries an additional fee.
